['jeləʊ 'dʒəːnəlɪzəm; englisch, eigentlich »gelber Journalismus«], Yellow Press [- pres, »gelbe Presse«], amerikanische Bezeichnung für den trivialen Sensationsjournalismus, der sich mit Klatsch, Skandal, Verbrechen, Sport und sentimentalen Geschichten befasst. Die Bezeichnung geht auf die erste amerikanische Comicserie »The yellow kid« (gezeichnet von Richard Felton Outcault, * 1863, ✝ 1928) über einen Straßenjungen im gelben Hemd zurück, die ab 1894 in J. Pulitzers New-Yorker Straßenverkaufszeitung »The World« erschien. 1896 wechselte Outcault zu W. R. Hearsts »New York Journal« über, was zur Charakterisierung zunächst dieser beiden Zeitungen, dann der Sensationspresse insgesamt als »Yellow Press« führte.
